This is not a film set or a theme-park attraction. It is an ordinary hill above a flooded granite quarry, offering one of the best panoramic views in Bila Tserkva. People come here not for history, but for the view — and the photo that collects likes.

What It Is and Why Visit

«Hollywood» is a folk nickname, not an official designation. On one of the slopes above the quarry, enthusiasts arranged large pale letters that immediately recalled the famous hillside sign above Los Angeles. The name stuck, and it is now a standard local reference point: “meet me at Hollywood.”

The main reason to come is the panorama. From the hilltop you can see the city, the bends of the Ros river, and the turquoise water of the old granite quarry below. It is one of the few spots from which Bila Tserkva reveals itself “from above,” which is why people make the trip for photos, sunsets, and a quick affair with the view.

The Quarry That Made the Landscape

The Bila Tserkva area sits on the Ukrainian Shield — some of the oldest rock formations in Europe. Stone was quarried here by open-cast methods for many years, and it is precisely those abandoned workings that gave the city its unexpected “mountain” scenery: rocky walls, cliff edges, and water that gradually filled the bottom.

When the quarry closed, groundwater did the rest — a lake of characteristic turquoise appeared at the base. That contrast of grey granite and turquoise below against green slopes above is what makes the shot from «Hollywood» so instantly recognisable.

The granite underfoot here is older than all empires combined — the rocks of the Ukrainian Shield are billions of years old. The white letters on the slope are younger than most of the visitors.

How to Get There

By car. Bila Tserkva is about 85 km from Kyiv via the M05/E95 motorway. From the city, navigate to coordinates 49.7585, 30.1341. The last stretch is an unpaved road — slippery in wet weather.

By public transport. Buses and minibuses run from Kyiv (Vydubichi bus station) to Bila Tserkva; from there take local transport or a taxi to the quarry area, then walk up the hill.
